SIXTH GRADE ADVISORY
For two weeks, every month, of this school year; a group of sixth grade students gather in the math room with me, to integrate art into core subjects and to explore the theme of "acceptance". What you see on this page is a sampling of what we do with every child, no matter what it takes, everyday...
Twenty-one sixth graders delved into the concept of POINTS of CONNECTION. We discussed how we, as a group, were the same, however different. We also discussed how some differences were inconsequential, (the various shoes we wore that particular day), in contrast to other differences, where people make choices that are harmful to themselves or others, (like the choice to bully someone because they didn't wear the "perceived correct" style of shoes). We talked about forgiveness, making amends, and moving forward, because no one lives in a bubble. These are all POINTS of CONNECTION that your children generated - they are deep thinkers - even when given just a word - ACCEPTANCE!
Words are powerful!

PUZZLE CONNECTIONS
Here are the advisory student's puzzle connections, as paper dolls. We are all different, but connected, like a puzzle. Every piece has to be in place so you can get the beauty of the entire puzzle.

Introducing
THE PUZZLE HEADS
The Puzzle Heads puppets have been created by our students for our end of the year production about acceptance. We are like puzzle pieces - uniquely created, yet different. Each and every puzzle piece must be in place to make a beautiful picture.
These Puzzle head characters and lots more, will soon be in a production on May 27th featuring three plays written by students that explore our theme of acceptance
Here's a sampling of our culminating advisory activity
Visual arts advisory students created the "Puzzle-Head" puppets and backdrops, drama students wrote and acted out the scripts with the puppets, while the music students sang songs. There were three plays. The first was at a Starbucks, however, underwater, where customers expected service; the next took place at an office, where an office worker was being dumped upon by her co-workers; and the last one took place at a futuristic auto-shop. (There was a fourth however the filming quality was poor - my apologies). Enjoy the sampling
